A School Wellness Council (SWC) is an advisory group comprised of studentstheir family members, school staff, and community members who work together and with the school administration to promote a healthy school community. The DOE Citywide Wellness Policy strongly encourages all schools to have a School Wellness Council.

Wellness councils are essential in NYC public schools--they find practical and innovative ways to help ensure that schools provide high-quality physical education and health education, create and implement school-level wellness policies aligned with the Citywide Wellness Policy, and administer activities and programs that enhance physical and social-emotional health and wellness.
