A School Wellness Council is an advisory group comprised of school staff, students, their families, and community members who work together and with school administration to promote a healthy school community. The DOE Citywide School Wellness Policy (opens in new window) strongly encourages all schools to have a School Wellness Council.

Wellness councils are essential in NYC public schools—they help ensure that schools provide high-quality physical education and health education, create and implement school-level wellness policies aligned with the Citywide Wellness Policy, administer activities and programs that enhance physical and social-emotional health and wellness, and promote inclusivity and diversity.
