Internet pop-ups can be annoying. However, some websites and web-based applications (e.g. NYC FITNESSGRAM) require them to be active. Knowing how to unblock pop-ups will allow you more control over this function in your web browser. The process is different depending upon which browser you use.
Using Internet Explorer
Launch Internet Explorer. Click the Tools button on the main menu and hover your cursor over the words "Pop-up Blocker" in the drop down menu.
Select "Pop-Up Blocker Settings" from the slide out menu.
This will launch the Pop-Up Blocker Settings window.
Make any necessary changes and click the Close button.
Using Google Chrome
Launch Google Chrome. Click the Chrome menu (⋮) This is found in the top-right corner of the Chrome browser. Click "Settings" towards the bottom of the menu. This will open a new tab in your Chrome window which will allow you to adjust the browser settings.
Click the "Show advanced settings" link. This is located at the bottom of the list of settings. The settings list will expand after clicking the link.
Open the Content Settings window. Click the Content settings... button. This is located under the Privacy section. Clicking the button will open a new window.
Scroll down to the "Pop-ups" section. By default, Chrome does not allow any sites to use pop-ups for security reasons. Pop-ups can make your computer susceptible to virus infection, and some sites make them very difficult to close. You can change it to allow all sites to use pop-ups, but this is not recommended. Instead, if you need pop-ups for specific sites, they should be enabled one by one.
Add sites to your exceptions list. Click the Manage exceptions.. button. In the "Hostname pattern" column, enter the website that you want to allow pop-ups from. Make sure that the drop-down menu next to the entry is set to "Allow." When you are done adding websites, click Done.
Close the Settings tab. Reload the web page to let the new settings take effect. If the pop-ups will still not load, make sure that any extensions you may have installed are not blocking them as well. If they are, add the website you want to allow to that extension as well or disable the extension.
Mozilla FireFox
Launch Mozilla Firefox. Click the Chrome menu (☰). Choose the Options link from the drop down menu.
This will open the Options window. Click the Content tab in this window. You can uncheck the Block pop-up windows option,or
Allow specific websites under the Exceptions button.
After making the changes, click the Save Changes button. Then close the Options window.
