You can find the HIV Parent/Guardian Notification Letters for Grades K-6 and Grades 7-12 on the InfoHub (opens in new window; DOE login required) in multiple languages. The Grade 7-12 letter explains the opt-out process in middle school and high schools for lessons that teach about methods of HIV/sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention. Information about methods of HIV prevention is not covered at the elementary level, so there are no opt out lessons, but the Grade K-6 letter should still be sent home informing parents/guardians that their child will be taught the curriculum. Schools should use the templates to print the letter on school letterhead with the principal's signature.
