New York State, as part of the Concussion Awareness Act, mandates that all DOE physical education (PE) teachers, including classroom and common branch teachers who teach PE, and all coaches for CHAMPS or PSAL sports/activities must complete the Concussion in Sports (opens in new window) online training every two years.

The Concussion in Sports training is a free, 45-minute, CDC-approved online training to help school staff recognize concussion symptoms and learn how to respond appropriately to students who are experiencing a concussion.

Follow these instructions to complete the training:

  1. Visit the Concussion in Sports (opens in new window) web page. Select New York from the dropdown menu “Please Select Your State,” then click the “Order Course” button. (Note: You must sign in or register for a free NFHS account before selecting the course.)
  2. Complete the online course.
  3. Download and save a copy of your completion certificate. For help completing the training and downloading your certificate, see Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) (opens in new window).
