SMARTIE Goal formatting is an easy way to turn ideas into actionable plans. When writing your goals, make sure they are:
Specific: it is clear what the purpose and desired result is, and it is focused on health and/or wellness.
What are you working to achieve (e.g., Our goal is to...)?
Measurable: it can be quantified and tracked/reported.
How will you measure progress/results?
Ambitious: it is challenging enough that achievement would mean significant progress.*
In what ways will these be challenging achievements that will help your school community this year?
Realistic: it is practical and the council has/will have the skills, time, staff, physical space, etc. to realize the goal; it is worth the time and energy.
Timely: it will be completed in/across an appropriate amount of time (2020–2021 school year).
Inclusive: it brings traditionally marginalized people into activities and programs: students of all levels, abilities, and identities are able to access this opportunity.*
Equitable: it includes an element of fairness or justice that seeks to address systemic injustice, inequity, or oppression: everyone receives what they need to access this opportunity.*
