The CHAMPS Sports and Fitness Program provides students the opportunity to participate in physical activity and sports programs before and after school. CHAMPS is available to elementary, middle, and District 75 school students of all abilities when a principal applies and requests program funding at the beginning of the school year.

First, an elementary school or middle school principal nominates a coach who is a DOE-licensed teacher and has valid AED/CPR and Concussion in Sports (CIS) certificates. Next, the principal submits a completed online application and requests funding. The application is scored, and certificates are screened for approval by the Office of School Wellness Programs staff. Last, principals are notified of funding status. If a school is awarded, the principal will oversee their schools’ CHAMPS program, implement the activity selected, and schedule program sessions for students to attend. The nominated teacher-coach plans the activities and supervises students. Funded schools must adhere to strict program implementation requirements.
